NEA Task 8 : Research Into Existing Film Magazines For A Media Literate Audience

Sam, an example of a target audience member for my magazine, shown interest in three different magazines being Film Stories, Sight and Sound and Little White Lies. Here is some further information on these magazines to inquire what interests will engage my target audience in consuming my magazine initially and further.

The Film Stories magazine was originally founded as a podcast and website by Simon Brew in June 2018, it has since expanded to a film magazine since November 2018. The magazine is published monthly and a typical cover tends to feature bright colours with a familiar celebrity face endorsement on the main cover, like this presented on the right. The cost of the Film Stories magazine in £5.99 and the company does still have the website that it was founded with along side the original podcasts.

Another magazine was Sight and Sound. Sight and Sound is another film magazine which is published monthly and has been in print since 1932 but now however, is available in digital formats. The magazine is published by the company British Film Institute and an annual print subscription would set someone back £50 as well as an £35 annual digital subscription available. The magazine doesn't have an independent website but is featured on the British Film Institute website and as typical front cover would look like this presented on the left.

Last but not least, Little White Lies. For UK residents £28 is enough for a 12 month Little White Lies subscription, which would only get you 5 copies over the space of the 12 months however. Little White Lies does have a website and their magazine covers feature a different style to the others as they have an artistic notion to them featuring drawings opposed to pictures, for example shown on the right.
